Read or Alive explores our diffuse media ecosystem with the goal of highlighting photos, videos, and stories covering some of the most pressing concerns we face in the 21st century.
Media - As has been said throughout history, the price of liberty is eternal vigilance. Call it the free press, the 4th estate, or even just the media; it is our primary tool for informing and communicating with one another, as well as holding the powers-that-be accountable to the citizenry.
Security - Across the globe, citizens live in danger of violence, be it civil war, occupation, terrorism, or organized crime. No matter the perpetrator or victim, the violation of the foundational human right, the right to life, is the concern of all citizens in our modern, globalized world.
Development - Economic catastrophe, war, and natural disasters wreak havoc across the globe, but countless citizens, acting on behalf of governments, NGO's, religious institutions, and private interest work to mitigate these issues. Covering everything from building schools to vaccinating against malaria, from training journalists to mentoring future leaders, the development field provides an avenue for progress amidst disaster, reform amidst repression, and hope amidst despair.
